Online Training for Rollout during COVID-19

Challenging times require innovative measures. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a training for health service providers took place online. The training aimed to support the scale up of the national health insurance and openIMIS in Nepal. It focused on the following topics:

  • the health insurance benefit package, service utilisation processes and documentation requirements for claim reimbursement;
  • the use of mobile apps for insuree enquiry and claims document upload;
  • openIMIS operating procedures for data entry, claim management and reports;
  • entering of mock claims into the openIMIS demo server.

120 participants from district and private hospitals as well as from public health centers in Nepal successfully took part in the online workshop.

Partner Workshop on Finance and Insurance Service

The first openIMIS partner workshop on software for finance and insurance services has been a great success. In a series of three virtual workshops, the openIMIS team and developers from other projects discussed strategies for building better software for supporting health financing scheme operators in low- and middle-income countries.

The participants worked on a wide range of topics, that were then discussed in focus sessions with experts of the openIMIS community. The portfolio included topics such as "Open Source Business Models" and "Data Confidentiality". It covered practical aspects of systems interoperability and ventured into the space of artificial intelligence in health insurance.

The group will keep up the momentum with regular follow up calls and participation in professional networks such as the OpenHIE community of practice. If the global situation allows it, an in-person hackathon will take place next year.
