openIMIS Newsletter January 2022

After a successful pilot exercise, the government of Tanzania has done a national roll-out of the Community Health Fund (CHF) e-payment system with over one million active members. The system is expected to improve the management of the fund by reducing overall costs and facilitating payment of membership contributions.

To build capacity of the Regional Coordinating teams a three-day workshop on the use of the CHF e-payment system was held ahead of the rollout. The workshop involved not only CHF Regional Coordinators but also IT Officers and CHF Council teams from across the country.

Speaking at the workshop, Rasheed Maftah, the Director of Health Services in the President’s Office, acknowledged the assistance of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and the Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) project. Both has been working together with the Ministry of Finance and Planning in developing the CIF e-payment system.

Bangladesh experts in Kathmandu to learn about openIMIS

The openIMIS implementation for an Employment Injury Insurance scheme in Nepal attracted the interest of experts in Bangladesh. Within a study tour the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) of Bangladesh visited the Social Security Fund (SSF) of Nepal, a user of openIMIS. The tour was accompanied by a representative of the International Labour Organization (ILO). ILO is currently providing technical support to the MoLE in the customization and use of openIMIS for the Employment Injury Insurance scheme in Bangladesh.

The MoLE of Banladesh aimed to learn about the implementation of openIMIS in Nepal and gain expertise on how it could be applied in Bangladesh. The study tour provided a great platform for exchange between the two agencies and an opportunity for the openIMIS initiative to widen its user base and community of practice. It was organized by GIZ Nepal.
