Nepal / Employment Injury Insurance

The scheme in context

The Government of Nepal founded the Social Security Fund (SSF) in 2011. In 2018 the Social Security Fund launched an accident and disability insurance scheme for workers in the formal sector. The benefit package offers full coverage of medical expenses incurred in treatment following an employment-related accident, as well as salary compensation until the beneficiary can return to work. Additional coverage of medical expenses, up to a specified limit, is also offered to beneficiaries following a non-employment related accident.

How the scheme uses openIMIS

Since 2020 the Social Security Fund has been using openIMIS for claims management, claims review and reporting. The system has been customized to ensure interoperability with SSF’s in-house beneficiary and payment management system (SoSYS).

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) provide technical support to implementation.
